Top 10 Secrets - To Grow Your Business with Telemarketing

1. Select a Company with Experience

When it comes time to select a telemarketing vendor, you want assurance that the company you are considering has a proven track record.

How long have they been in business?
Is telemarketing their only business?
Have they been recognized with any awards or distinctions?
Are they members of industry organizations?
What is the average length of employment of the people in management?

These are just a few questions you should ask any potential telemarketing provider

2. Quality Controls are a Must

The best designed programs will fail without conscientious quality control programs

Accurate sales verification is critical to reduce returns and refusals… adequate floor supervisors ensure that phone reps execute your program the way it was designed… and involved management works to fine-tune and direct your program to meet stated goals and objectives.

3. Rep Training and Program Set-up

Arrghhhh... how badly can one person mispronounce my name? Is she ever going to stop talking to let me get a word in edge-wise? I might consider this product if I had a change to ask a question...

Proper training and program set-up works to create a dialogue between your reps and your customers. With it, your program can earn you big bucks….without it, your program can earn you big bombs.

What type of training are your phone reps getting?

4. Sophisticated It Capabilities

Programmers... programs... software... hardware... technologies - amid the confusing array of acronyms in the telemarketing industry, IT plays a huge role in program effectiveness.

From simple data capture to list targeting and predictive modeling, IT can bring more power, performance and profits to your telemarketing operations.

5. State Of the Art Equipment And Technology

How many calls is your provider dropping? How many customers hang up because they've been waiting too long? How many orders are lost because the system did not do what it was supposed to?

Used effectively, technology can dramatically improve call handling, list targeting and on-line interaction…..and increase the number of sales and contacts made

6. Scripting

Like a good movie script, the right telemarketing script can make or break your calling program.

Rebuttals, answers to questions, customer feedback and listening skills all work together to create an effective exchange between the rep and your prospect.

Good scripting can anticipate what skills will be needed where…and that can lead to better program results.

7. Reporting

Reams of worthless data... confused spread-sheets that your IT guys can't even decipher... e-mails from some technician who doesn't have a clue as to what your program's about.

Your Telemarketing Company’s reports must allow you to evaluate and modify your calling program easily. Getting reports on time is critical to make inventory, fulfillment and marketing decisions.

8. Program Flexibility

Your latest catalogue drop has increased inbound calls by 250%... an infomercial you're running has generated way too many telephone orders for your in-house staff to handle... you have surplus product in your warehouse you want to move with an out bound call centre...

You don't want to pay for a 40-hour week if you only need 20…..you want to be sure you have a qualified, dedicated company to handle fluctuations in call volume

9. Pre-Call Testing

Would you buy a car before you test-drove it... buy a suit or dress before you tried it on... commit to a significant other before a couple of dates... of course not! Kick the tires, wring the sleeves and see if he opens the door for you!

Good cars, suits and spouses wear well through trials... so should your telemarketing program.

10. Testimonials

Face it, almost everyone has had experience with a telemarketing company that is less than stellar. It's not too uncommon to hear nightmare stories of customers calling to say they've received products they've never ordered... were billed more than they were quoted... were billed more than they were quoted... or claiming they were never called at all.

Bad sales - and bad telemarketers - do more harm to your business in the long term. That's a thought to chill any marketing director to the bone.

Sales Attitudes of Top Achievers

If you think the same way as the top achievers think, you can begin to get the same results they do. Here are 10 psychological and practical ways to mirror the attitudes of top achievers.

1. See yourself as a consultant rather than a salesperson. Believe that you are a problem-solver with regard to your product and how the client can best use it.

2. Become a doctor of selling. Act in the best interests of your “patients” and have a high code of ethics.

3. See yourself as the president of your own sales corporation. Accept 100 percent responsibility for your results.

4. Commit yourself to being the best in your field. Dedicate yourself to lifelong learning.

5. Be ambitious, hungry, and determined to use selling as a steppingstone to the success you want in life.

6. Have integrity. Be honest with yourself and others.

7. Engage in thorough preparation prior to every call.

8. Be an excellent listener; be extremely customer-focused.

9. Have tremendous courage. Be willing to face your fears of rejection and failure, and overcome them.

10. Be highly persistent. Start your workday earlier, work harder, and stay longer.

To make these changes work you must walk, talk and behave consistently with them every hour of every day. By Brian Tracy

Things To Ponder

Your attitude is either the lock on or key to your door of success.

It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re not.

A smile is the light in your window that lets others know there is a caring person inside.

The most important three words you can say to yourself: "Yes, I can!"

If you believe you can… you probably can.

If you believe you won't... you most assuredly won't.

Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.
